🦐 QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED IN OUR SHOP

We’ve been getting lots of great questions from customers visiting our shop recently, so we thought we’d share our answers with everyone! Maybe you haven’t visited us yet but have been wondering the same thing 😊

“Why should I keep shrimp in my aquarium?” or What’s the role of shrimp in a tank??

We actually get asked this question quite often!

Apart from being a beautiful and colourful addition to your aquarium, freshwater shrimp can also play a very useful role in your tank.

1.Natural clean-up crew
Shrimp spend most of their day grazing on surfaces around the aquarium, helping to consume algae, biofilm and small leftover food particles.

2.They graze everywhere
You’ll often see them working across plants, moss, wood, rocks, substrate and other surfaces, including small areas that are difficult to reach during normal aquarium maintenance.

3.They help keep the aquarium tidy
By constantly grazing, shrimp can help reduce the build-up of organic food particles and some types of algae. They don’t replace regular tank maintenance, but they make a fantastic addition to your aquarium’s natural clean-up crew.

4.Perfect for planted aquariums
Shrimp are especially enjoyable in planted and aquascaped tanks, where you can watch them constantly exploring and grazing amongst plants and mosses.

🎨 And of course – the colours!
Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp are available in an incredible variety of colours, patterns and grades, so they can become one of the main attractions of the aquarium rather than simply a clean-up crew.

If algae control is your main priority, Amano Shrimp are particularly well known for their algae-grazing behaviour.

So shrimp aren’t just beautiful to look at – they are active, interesting and useful little members of your aquarium ecosystem. 🦐🌿
